Our Building Process

Building a custom home is a very exciting and rewarding experience. Jim Sexton Homes has taken this complex process and simplified the many details into an efficient and user friendly system. We have the most talented, registered, designers available to assist with design, color selection, finishes, fixtures and features.

Selecting a lot – Great homes start with special settings. If you already own your own lot… great! If you don’t… Jim Sexton Homes can help you locate and analyze lots based on your needs, location, lot size and price. We will assist you in viewing potential sites you are considering to ensure that the type of home you want can feasibly be built at your budget level.

Designing the home - You may already have a design of your own, or simply an idea for a home. In any case, we can work with your architect or ours to finish designing the plan. To save you considerable time and money we recommend being involved throughout the design process.

Developing a general finish out - We can take you through different homes that we have built and/or work with the interior designer(s) to develop your general finish out selections. This process is necessary to establish a more accurate cost estimate.

Formulating an estimate - After our first visit to the architect we are provided a preliminary plan concept of your home. From this initial plan, and your general finish out selections, we can provide you a preliminary cost estimate.

Enter into a construction agreement - Once the final plans are developed, the interior specifications are complete, and the final price determined; we will enter into an agreement. At this time you will be given an organized selection packet including a selection schedule detailing who, where and when selections need to be made. This comprehensive package will help keep the construction on schedule making the selection process enjoyable.

Construction begins – The most critical stage of all -- this is where most builders make the mistake by assigning a “project manager” or “superintendent” to build your home. With us you will have the owner of Jim Sexton Homes, Ray Higgins supervising every phase of construction and servicing of your home. If you would like to make changes or additions during the construction process… not a problem. You will work directly with Ray, to accomplish whatever you want. You will always be notified, in advance, of any costs or credits associated with the changes or additions.
